Our faculty member Volkan Yılmaz will speak on his book entitled "The Politics of Healthcare Reform in Turkey" on Friday, March 23 / 14.30 IB 204.

Book Abstract:

Contemporary healthcare reforms are complex political processes within which a multitude of actors negotiate whether and to what extent healthcare services remain a social right or a commodity. The transformation in the healthcare system in Turkey since 2003 has been one of them, which has been portrayed as a benchmark for building universal healthcare systems in emerging market economies by international organizations such as World Health Organisation and the World Bank. The paper explores the political dynamics of the transformation in the healthcare system in Turkey since 2003 and addresses the following questions: What were the political dynamics that enabled the reform? What political conflicts did the reform generate?

How and to whose benefit have these conflicts been resolved?
